The Forminx (1963-1966) was a Greek band with the
members: Vangelis (organ), Vassilis Bakopoulos (guitar), Sotiris Arnis (bass),
Costas Skokos (drums) and Tassos Papastamatis (occasionally as lead singer).
The Forminx is considered one of the first Greek rock bands and was formed in
Athens.
The band was heavily influenced by the British Invasion bands, such as The
Beatles and The Rolling Stones, and their sound was a mix of rock, pop, and
Greek folk music.
The band had several lineup changes during its existence, but the most stable
one included Vangelis, Vassilis Bakopoulos on guitar, Sotiris Arnis on bass,
Costas Skokos on drums, and Tassos Papastamatis as the lead singer. They
released a total of 22 songs between 1964 and 1966, most of which were composed
by Vangelis and had lyrics written by Nikos Mastorakis.

After the band disbanded in 1966, Vangelis went on to pursue a successful solo career in music, while some of the other members continued to play in other Greek bands. In 1978, a Christmas EP featuring The Forminx's versions of classic Christmas songs was released. The band's music remains popular among Greek rock fans and collectors.
